A series of intangible cultural heritage (ICH) events were held in Laosiyan Village, Hongshilin Town, Guzhang County, Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture on September 28.
The events kicked off with a welcoming ceremony and door-blocking wine. With the rhythm of suona, cymbals, and waist drums, the Tujia people greeted guests from afar with sweet rice wine.
A parade team consisting of performers of trombones, horse vaulting, colorful flags, dragon dances, and folk customs walked along the quaint post road and distributed small gifts to tourists.
At the event site, intangible cultural heritage projects such as hand-waving dance, Daliuzi, and three-stick drum were staged, presenting the Tujia traditional culture, winning applause from the audience. In addition, the on-site interaction of Tujia wedding customs made the audience immersed in the unique charm of intangible cultural heritage. At the end of the events, the audience and actors sang and danced around the blazing bonfire.
Laosiyan Village is one of the first traditional Chinese villages and a provincial-level cultural relic protection unit. Since ancient times, it has been a must-pass place from Hunan to Sichuan. It was a transportation hub and commercial center during the Ming and Qing dynasties. In recent years, the intangible cultural heritage performances of Laosiyan Village have become a part of daily life, and the village has become more and more popular.
Hongshilin Town has representative intangible cultural heritage projects such as the Eba Dance, and Youshui Boat Song. There is one national-level inheritor and more than 20 prefectural-level and county-level inheritors.
